The Wawel Royal Castle is to Krakow what the Acropolis was to ancient Athens! Towering over the banks of the Vistula is this royal castle, once the seat of secular and ecclesiastical power, and today, a wildly popular and deeply cherished landmark in Poland. This also happens to be one of the most important museums in Poland, housing large collections of paintings, graphics, sculptures, fabrics, military items, porcelain, and furniture. Walk through chambers and halls, displaying famous tapestries, magnificent Renaissance Italian paintings, and collections of tents! Also visit the Royal Chambers and State Rooms of the Castle, letting you take a peek into the lives once lived by Polish royalty.
You’ll also visit the Wawel Cathedral, a spectacular narrative of Polish history, where all Polish monarchs are buried. The Sigismund Bell Tower, an independent freestanding structure within the complex, is a popular landmark that houses the iconic bell.
